In addition to serving New Jersey’s 31st district, Senator Cunningham is also Executive Director of the Sandra and Glenn D. Cunningham Foundation (SGCF). SGCF is a non-profit organization created to positively impact growth and advancement of Jersey City, New Jersey by offering educational and training opportunities to the community.
The focus of SGCF is to enhance the lives of highly motivated high school graduates that face challenging circumstances which may hinder their access to educational resources.
The Foundation provides financial assistance and a one-on-one mentor relationship with positive roles models to guide them in reaching their educational goals. SGCF is currently helping 38 students in Jersey City and Bayonne reach their educational goals.
The Foundation also seeks to impact the lives of the city’s elderly population by providing resources that inspire hope and enhanced quality of life.
SGCF is located in Jersey City, the second largest city in New Jersey and one of the most culturally diverse in the nation. The late Glenn D. Cunningham, a former US Marine, Jersey City Police Officer, Jersey City Councilman and Hudson County Freeholder and his wife Sandra Cunningham founded the organization shortly after Mr. Cunningham was elected as the first African-American Mayor of Jersey City. He was later elected as New Jersey Senator of Hudson County.
